Description
Kawasaki disease is a systemic vasculitis that mainly affects children under 1 year of age, being exceptional its breakthrough in children above 5 years of age. It is considered a rare disease whose origin and physiological mechanisms are unknown. This project is studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the disease to identify potential therapeutic targets and potential biomarkers for an early diagnosis of certainty in patients with KD. In order to do that, we are establishing a new animal model that allow us to trace the main cellular subpopulations involved in the pathogenesis of the disease and describe their dynamics along the pathology. This model will help us to unravel the key local signalling pathways involved in the pathogenesis of KD. Our results will contribute to the identification of possible therapeutic targets for this disease and early diagnostic markers.
